Author: Ben Spies-Butcher

Ben Spies-Butcher is Associate Professor of Economy and Society in the Macquarie School of Social Sciences. He is co-founder and Co-Director of the Australian Basic Income Lab, Associate Editor of the Economic and Labour Relations Review and a member of the editorial collective for the Journal of Australian Political Economy. He has worked with a range of non-government and policy organisations including Justice Reinvestment NSW, Council on the Ageing and Shelter. His research explores the political economy of the welfare state, focusing particularly on processes of financialisation. His most recent book is Politics, Inequality and the Australian Welfare State After Liberalisation, out with Anthem Press.
